A Converstaion with God for Women by Marcia Ford

"A Conversation with God for Women allows readers a one-on-one dialogue with God, Jesus, and other important biblical characters as they respond to questions and concerns relevant to the Christian faith. The often challenging questions address issues and tensions specifically felt by women. Each answer, designed for both believers and seekers, is based on Scripture and written with the warmth and intimacy of a Heavenly Father relating to His child." This sums it up however I was not captivated by the book. The one thing I think it lacked was scripture references. Also, I lost interest quick as it is in a question answer format and isnt really a converstaion. I think this book is very appropriate for a new believer, but doesnt challenge the mind and heart the way I hopped it would.

Brain on LOVE!

This is Your Brain on Love by Dr. Earl Henslin

Using the latest brain research, Dr. Earl Henslin discusses our brains in love! After discussing the basics of the brain, hormones and chemicals of our brain while we are in love, Dr. Henslin breaks down different types of lovers. He instructs readers how to bring the most balanced happy brain to relationships and marriages. He helps us learn how to “focus the scattered lover, relax the over-focused lover, cheer the blue mood lover, calm the agitated lover and soothe the anxious lover.

Although not married, the book was very interesting to me. Learning the science behind loving made sense! Henslin breaks down the brain for the non-science oriented audience. It was inspiring to learn how to apply the make-up of my brain, to my relationship. Even more interesting Henslin brings to attention a Biblical approach to science. This is often few and far between and very inspiring. He teaches the truth about biblically based relationships and encourages faithfulness to one another and the Lord. Over all it was a good book, but may be more applicable to a married couple.

Weekend with Friends!

This past weekend Tommy and I went to visit my freshman year college roommate and her husband Trent. We had a great time. The highlight of the trip was going to Rhar & Sons Brewery in Fort Worth Texas. The location was great, they had live music, and it was filled with locals. It opened at 1:00pm for tours and tasting. We stayed for a few hours, watching people and engaging in great conversation!

For only $7 you received a pint glass and three tickets. These tickets gave you the chance to take the different beers. The beer was very good. I tried three different brews, ranging from a dark stout to a blond ale.

Weekend Ahead

I have a great weekend ahead! Tommy and I will be driving to Dallas to visit one of my college roommates Holly and her Husband Trent. I am thrilled to see them, and it has been way too long! :)

One of the things I am most excited about is seeing their dog Rex. I met Rex when they picked him up from Guy, Texas (Just south of Houston). I am assuming he is a little bigger now! See pictures below...

He weights 100+lbs And I have been warned that he will wake me up with a big kiss! It should be fun to play with a dog that is twice my size, and still growing! :) I know we will have a great time, and I am thrilled to have everyone meet Tommy. (No pressure babe!)

Sundance, Utah

I spent the last few days working in Sundance, Utah. I was asked to join a executive retreat at the resort, and host their Talent Managment. This was one of the best work trips I have been on... Let me show you why...

You can now see why I loved this place so much! The resort was tranquil. It was incredible to be so relaxed at work. I sat by the fireplace at night and read my book. It was wonderful. More pictures to come!

He covers quite a few important areas over the course of the book as he looks into the question, what does it mean to seek God's righteousness. These include the difference between relying on our own good works instead of God's work in us. Some debate that Seay misses the mark. I do not know enough about Biblical truth to make that judgement. But I would love the opportunity to sit down with Pastor Seay and discuss this book.

Yikes!

Well, I failed on the 30 day Challenge, and I have failed as a blogger. Am I still considered a blogger if I havent blogged in over 3 months? Yikes. Fail.

I am going to start blogging again, however it will be a challenge. I will be traveling more this year and will have less opportunities to sit down and capitavtes my readers hearts (you know all 13 of them!). :) Kidding.

Not much has changed, I am still addicted to Diet Coke (there is one sitting on my desk ready to be consumed as we speak!). I am still running, and training for the Houston Half Marathon on January 30th. More updates to come.

Favorite City, Favorite Vacation

Favorite city- My favorite City... Hmmmm... This is a tough one. I have been blessed to go to many places, but I would have to say that one of my favorite cities is Chicago, IL. It has a river that they turn green on St. Patricks Day, a lake, beautiful parks, wonderful shopping on Michigan avenue (including my personal favorite, H&M). It has its own history (The water tower) and much more! Its a beautiful city, filled with so much life and diversity. They also have great buildings that you can go to the top to to see the view of the city. Most importantly it has family. I have quite a few family members in Chicago, and I feel blessed to get to see them often :) Next Time I go to Chicago, remind me to bring a jacket because it gets cold there! BURRRR!

Favorite vacation- My favorite vacation was going to Hawaii with my two best high school friends, Erin and Amanda. This vacation was SO MUCH FUN! We went the summer after we graduated from college, and it was incredibly relaxing and entertaining. The benefit of going to Hawaii was that Erins older brother Ryan was there stationed for the US Army. We had the chance to explore the island like locals and tourists, enjoying local diners & beaches, and even a private flying tour of the islands. I have never enjoyed laying on the beach so much as I did with these two wonderful ladies. :)

Day 18-Something you regret
Its hard for me to share regrets (that is ones that are not to personal!!), but one of my regrets from college is that I did not study abroad. The University of Oklahoma encourages all of its students to study abroad and it has hundreds of relationships with colleges across the globe. I was a plane ticket and a deposit away from going to Spain the summer after my Sophomore year. I choose an internship in Houston instead. Lucky for me, the Lord blessed that time, and I was able to learn what I didnt want to do with my career!

Day 19-Something you miss
Since we are on the topic of Oklahoma, I miss OU. This place is beautiful. Filled with the Holy Spirit and thriving. Just look at how beautiful it is. Check out Elyse's Blog! and her reasons why she loves OU.

I miss the college town vibe, the atmosphere, Football games (who doesn't miss 100,000. dressed in crimson and screaming Boomer Sooner!)

Oh Boy I have quite a few of these... some I like, Others I don't. In 5th grade I was called a few rude nicknames that have scarred me for life (Red Checking Pencil, Clifford the Big Red Dog). Go ahead and laugh, its ok! Here are a few others...

This verse is beautiful to me because it speaks to the fact that the Lord taught us love! I am in awe of the gifts God gives us on a daily basis, one of those being love. :)

Day 16-Dream house
hmmm... this one is tough.... I think my dream house would be a safe neighborhood (this is important since I tend to be a a magnet for robbery!), it would be big enough, but not so big that I felt small in it. Most importantly, it will be welcoming (like my parents home)! Beautifully decorated, and of course a wonderful kitchen, because that is the most important room in the house :)

Day 12-What you believe

I belive in Jesus Christ, I believe I have fallen in Love, I believe that Friends and Family are the most important part of our lives. I believe that God has given us ministry opportunities at every corner. I believe that it is ok to cry. I believe that every day is a learning opportunity.

Day 13-Goals

One of my major goals will end on January 30, 2011. A group of us will be running the Houston Half Marathon. My goal is to not walk, to improve my time from my last 1/2 marathon, and to not get injured!

Day 14-A picture you love
I love this picture. :) This was our first trip together to Puerto Rico when we explored the rain forest. We stopped by a waterfal, and I was amazed at Gods beautiful creations! I found leaves bigger than my face while we where there. I love this picture because of the bright colors and of course, the cute boy!

Ok this may be a little deep for a my blog posting... but I am afarid or not leaving a legacy. I wanted to one day be remembered as someone who loved so much, who cared deeply, who followed the Lord, etc. etc. What happens if I am not able to leave that legacy!? how will I be remembered? Either way, that is one of my fears.

Day 7-Favorite movies

There is one movie that brings me more joy than I can imagine. It makes me laugh every time I see it (I have probably seen it 72 times!) I can quote the whole movie. I look forward to it at a special time of the year. One day it will be a classic... Do you know what the movie is yet..?

Day 5-Your siblings

I am pretty sure I have one of the best sisters in the world. (No offense to the other sisters out there). Katelin is a beautiful Christ-like example to me. As my big sister, I know that I can count on her for anything! She has taught my so much throughout life, sometimes she teaches me without even knowing it. I have had the privilege of watching Katelin go through life a few years before I have. Of course she has conquered each chapter of her life with Christ-like grace and beauty. :) It is true, we dont always get along. But who else can you fight with and then laugh with all in the same day! Love you sis!

Day 6-A picture of something that makes you happy

This picture makes me extremely happy. This is my God-Daughter Emerson. She is a such a joy. I think about her constantly, and love spending time with her. My favorite thing to do is to put her to rock her to bed. I enjoy singing her praise and worship songs, while praying over here while she falls asleep in my arms. ISN'T SHE ADORABLE!!!! She has beans all over her face! :)

I have the best parents in the world. They shower me with love and kindness everyday! I am a daddy's girl through and through, but I love my Mom so much. Both of my parents have sacrificed so much for me. I remember how they would drop everything to attend my track meets, and how they would drive up for a short weekend to Oklahoma to support me in college. Now my parents are only 45 minutes away and I enjoy seeing them when I can. They still are a great support system, they help me navigate the waters of the real world. Nothing is more imporant to me than my family. I only pray I can be half as good of a parent as my parents were to me! :)

I am still going strong on the 30 day Blogger Challenge! This day is simple... My first true love plain and clear is Tommy! :) Just saying that brings joy to my heart. I have known him since I was 16 but recently we re-kindled our relationship at my sisters wedding. Since April, I have fallen madly in love with him. I love him because of his un-conditional love for me, his heart for the Lord, his fun and adventerous nature and so much more. I cannot expresses how wonderful it is to be loved by someone like him, and someone who pursures my heart and looks after me so carefully and dearly. It seems crazy that I have fallen in love. I look at him and sometimes think, "I am truly blessed to Love him!"

Book Review: Love and Respect, For a Lifetime

Love and Respect: For A Lifetime by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs

Love and Respect: For a Lifetime is a complied set of excerpts from Dr. Eggerichs’ book, Love and Respect. This book combines beautiful pictures, images, quotations and biblical references to tug at the heart strings of the reader. An easy to read gift book that will inspire both every man and woman who reads this book.

This book was a surprise when it came to my door step. I thought I was receiving the best selling full length book, but this book is a gift book. Not being married, but hoping to be one day, I ordered this book because of the high regards my family had given. It was a great way of looking into the own heart, as well as the needs of a husband. I especially liked Eggerichs’ biblical approach to love and our needs. This was a good introduction to the full length best seller. I would recommend this book for others, especially for couples to read together!

Im off to the windy city for a weekend filled with my cousins Jessicas beautiful wedding festivities! She is going to make such a beautiful bride! You can check out her website here! I will be reading in the wedding, and really hope that the Word penetrates the hearts of the people at the wedding. :) Love is such an incredible thing, and the Corinthians Passage about Love is a beautiful way to describe it! I cant wait to see my entire family, all my tons and tons of cousins and have a good time!

My travel plans worked out perfectly, as I will be attending a conference in Downtown Chicago on Monday and Tuesday! :) I love Chicago, and I cannot wait to explore it more. I also love that it is in the 60's there! Knowing me I will need a parka to stay warm!

Cooked with Love!

Tommy and I love to cook. We enjoy finding new recipes and trying out new things. Cooking with him is one of my favorite pass times. I love how he is 120% functional around the kitchen, and is a much better cook than I am. He teaches me so much, and I love him more and more each time he cooks me a meal! I especially having the opportunity to sit down next to him and talk as we enjoy our dinner.

Last night I decided to try a new Roasted Sweet Potatoe and Spinach Salad. We cooked a chicken breast to go along with it. I found the recipe off of Real Simple (Gotta Love that Magazine!)

Ingredients:

1sweet potatoes (about 1 pound), peeled and cut into thin wedges
1/2 red onion, thinly sliced

1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil

kosher salt and black pepper

2 6-ounce boneless, skinless chicken breasts

1 bunch spinach, thick stems removed (about 2 cups)

1 tablespoons fresh lime juice

Directions

1.Heat oven to 425° F.

2.On a rimmed baking sheet, toss the potatoes, onion, tablespoons oil, ½ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon pepper. Roast until tender, 20 to 25 minutes.

3. Season the chicken with ½ teaspoon salt and ¼ teaspoon pepper and cook as desired!

5.In a large bowl, toss the warm potato mixture with the spinach, lime juice, and ¼ teaspoon salt. Serve with the chicken.

It was extremely tasty! I would reccomend this easy dish to anyone! :)

Fall Begins Tomorrow!

Fall officially begins tomorrow! This is the most exciting time of the year. Leaves falling on your car as you drive with the windows down, pumpkin candles, harvest decorations, and family time. I find joy in the fall season! I feel myself drawing closer to God as the seasons change, and I am amazed by his beautiful creations. I look forward to celebrating fall this year, and have already decided on getting fall decorations out the second week of October! This year fall will encompass a few more things... For example, Tommy will be creating his annual Oakhurt Haunted House. I have been told that my participation is mandatory! :) I cant wait to wear sweaters and boots! (Even though flipflops are acceptable in Houston until January!) Happy Harvest Everyone!

UMARMY- Pictures Finally!

I got a hold of my mission trip pictures from June! I am so glad to have them back. :) I had the privledge of being a work team adult this summer at UMARMY with Kingwood United Methodist Church. The funny thing is, I am by no means an adult! My kids loved having me as the "responsible" one. I overheard them saying, "we have a kid for an adult!" This made me happy :)

Here are some picutre from the week, and of the amazing group of Highschool Kids who impacted me deeply. I have a special place in my heart for each one of them as they each posses amazing strengths and a heart for the Lord!

Top 2 Tuesday.. Things you want to accomplish

Top 2 Things you Want to Accomplish Before the End of the Year.

Set up a Morning Routine- I have gotten out of the morning routine ! My wake up time has varied from Day to Day. The cause: Not sure! The effect: Running around frantically trying to get myself to work on time, and feeling disoriented all day. I want to establish a more clear morning routine. In this routine I want to involve ample time to wake up relaxed, shower, read the bible and casually drive to work (not like a crazy truck driver, acting like I'm late for my deadline, running other drives off the road!).

Eat Healthy- Everyone feels better when they eat healthy. I typically eat well, but goodness I have a sweet Tooth. I need Chocolate like the the desert needs the rain! :) I want to continue to focus on eating healthy to make my body feel and perform better. This is make me less tired, improve my running, and allow me to feel good about myself! :)

Cast of Characters by Max Lucado

It’s the smallest situations in the life of Jesus that often speaks the most to us. And it is the biggest and smallest of biblical heroes that show that God can accomplish extraordinary things. In Cast of Characters, Max Lucado takes ordinary biblical people, to show how God can accomplish anything through all kinds of people. The book contains 22 studies of biblical heroes who were loved God, and allowed God to work in their lives. Max Lucado “explores how God accomplished more through their failures than their successes. Lucado reveals how these ancient biblical characters are relevant to modern concerns among people such as doubt, rejection, insignificance, purpose, humility, suffering, risk, and consequences.”

An easy read, and will catch the attention of any reader, as Lucado is able to relate to every person who picks up this book. Cast of Characters kept my attention and challenged my thought process to see the power of God in any situations. Lucado has a way with words, allowing the reader to describe the setting perfectly in their minds. He also accurately represented biblical truth, even as he addressed history in modern lingo. I would recommend this book to any reader who is interested in learning more about the abilities of God. This book would also be well suited for a bible study as it provides questions and discussion topics at the end.

Five Question Friday!

Five Question Friday!! I LOVE FRIDAY!

1. If I didn't have to work anymore I would: Volunteer at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I would be very bored not working. I would go for long leisurely runs!

2. My favorite thing about a vacation is: The initial excitement of boarding the airplane to go someplace new is the best part about vacation. I also like seeing places I have never been to before, being active and exploring.

3. When packing for a trip: I pack way too much! I am getting much better now that I travel for work. I now tend to focus on one color group and bring less shoes. (Shoes take up so much room!)

4. If I could go on a road trip with anyone (dead OR alive) I would choose: This is a tough one but I would first and foremost want to have Tommy with me, and then I would want to bring someone who could give me every fact about the region. For example, If I was traveling the east coast of the US, I would want Ben Franklin! Who wouldn't want to travel with the guy who flew a kite in a lightening storm!

5. My top 3 absolute travel essentials are: Snacks/Diet Coke, Chapstick, Hair straighter

Travel to Louisiana

I spent the last week in the marshes of Louisiana! Here is how the week went...

The Pink cicles show where I went!

Day 1: Fly into Lafayette Regional Airport early in the morning on a TINSEY TINEY plane! Drive 1.5 hours to Amelia Louisiana, Population 2,000! A thriving Metropolis! By 2:00pm work was in full swing, facilitating meetings and starting Talent Managment. For Dinner, we drove around looking for something good to eat... nothing to be found in such a small town. Note to self: Do not eat Mexican in Louisiana!

Day 2: Meetings GALORE!

Day 3: More Meetings in the AM, Drive to Lafayette for the evening! YUMMY Cajun Food. Ate Alligator, Fried Mushrooms, and had my first bowl of real gumbo. (By the way, I do not like Oysters)

Day 4: More meetings. Evening run at the University of Lafayette. Pretty Campus, Did I mention I miss college?

Day 5: Guess what, a few more meetings! Great Cajun BBQ lunch, and a short flight home to Houston.

Tuna sandwich and Indiana

How often do you get to say that a lady in the airport with her lunchbox full of tuna picked the one seat next to you? Well... It happened to me! Let me tell ya, I do not like tuna fish sandwiches! They stink!!

So the start of my trip to Indiana began with a tuna eating traveler. But that wasn't all...

We also saw a truck filled with chickens, a Midwestern mullet, and much much more.

All in all the trip was great. Purdue university ( our final destination on our trip) was beautiful!! And the 75 degree weather was even better.

Monday Night Kickball!

I thoroughly enjoy Monday nights... Two Games of kickball, fun friends, cool tank tops, catching pop-flies and being in the sun! Our team name is by far the best in the league... "99 Problems but a Pitch Ain't One!" (Clever!)

"Dude-Bros"

The rules of Kickball are basic. 2 Teams, 11 players each. 3 Outs and the roles reverse. You can get out on a pop fly, being pegged (it happened to me), out at the base, etc. All in all its fun! By favorite thing... Catching really high pop flies in the outfield!

The Team Takes the Field!

Did I mention that being up to bat is nervewracking! It is easy to whiff the ball. I usually end up kicking if off the shin instead of my foot. A big red ball rolling at you at what seems to be 57 MPH is SCARY!

This week the games were close, we won the first one, lost the second. Overall Record: 2 Wins... ?? Losses!

White Linen Night

This weekend was White Linen Night in the Heights, a night of art, music, fruit roll-ups and shopping, dressed in all white! We all met up and made out way to 19th street to partake in the festivities! Every street corner had a band, yummy food, and all cute little shops were open.

Somehow we found out way into a private party at an art gallery! Lucky us! The password to get in was "Donut!" Who would have thought?? Inside the party was a beautiful spread of yummy food, good music and drinks... Tommy found cupcakes and of course, they ended up on my face!

No Worries, I got him back!

All in all the night was a success! It was an adventure walking through the streets of the heights and seeing a wonderful up and coming part of Houston. I cant wait for Lights in the Heights around Christmas Time.

This weekend Tommy and I went to pick blueberries at Morehead Blueberry Farm. Extremely exciting! We met up early to head to the middle of no-where to collect blueberries from a farm that has been entertaining the self-fruit-picker for over 33 years.

We picked around 8 lbs of blueberries! What am I going to do with all of these? Any suggestions!?

Memoris of a Business Women: Arkansas

This past week I traveled to Little Rock, Arkansas (exciting, I know!) The goal of the trip, to educated a manufacturing facility about sexual harassment and discrimination.

I left Houston on Monday morning, the airport was roaring with people and summer travelers. I stood in line at security for a very long time, only two security scanners were up and running. And boy do I resent those Elite Travelers, they get to cut in line every time!

As we arrived in Little Rock, we took it upon ourselves to explore the River district for a lunch spot. My manager and I were both craving seafood (seafood in Arkansas? This may have been a bad idea). We found, "Flying Fish" and opted to give it a try. We enjoyed "downhome" seafood, and fried zucchini. I was satisfied to say the least, and was able to see some real Arkansas people!

Wake up call on Tuesday Morning: 5:00 am (yawnnn!)
On our way to the facility we realized we had not had breakfast or coffee, and I need my coffee! We tried to find somewhere to grab a morning snack, but as you may imagine, not much is open in the middle of no where at 6:00am. We settled for gas station diet coke, and a power bar. (oh the joys of Arkansas!)

I LOVE GAME NIGHT! My competitive blood starts flowing, my energy level soars and I am ready laugh. Last night we had a small game night and started it off with MadGab. Having a strong passion for games, I selfishly got this game for Tommy for his birthday so that we could play it (he caught on to my strategic gift giving! and might I add he is AMAZING at the game.)

Its simple, each team has two minutes to solve three, tounge twisting puzzles. The puzzles, known as mondegreens, contain small words, that when put together make a word or phrase. (Example... "Know Ozark" when pronounced quickly sounds like "Noah's Ark.")

To be honest, it is HILARIOUS! Listening to friends try to sound out a phrase and they have zero, zilch, no idea what they are saying :) I have found myself laughing until I am blue in the face.

To conclude, I love game night and having the gift of gab! Any suggestions for other games to play?

Top 2 Favorite Summer Recipes

1. Mango Avacado Salsa

1 lg. mango, peeled, diced

3 tbsp. red onion, minced
3 tbsp. diced green pepper
3 tbsp. diced red pepper
1 1/2 tbsp. white wine vinegar
1 tbsp. chopped fresh cilantro
1 tbsp. olive oil
1 tsp. minced fresh chives
1/2 lg. avocado, diced

mix all ingredients except avocado in large bowl. Add avocado to salsa and stir gently to combine. Salt and pepper to taste.

2. Jacci's Special Peanut Butter Sandwich

2 Slices of Wheat Bread
Organic Peanut Butter
1/2 Banana
1 tsp Local Honey
Pinch Cinnamon

Combine all ingredients onto the bread. Grill with Panini Machine!

Next Generation

Over the past year I have been in a Training Program for my company (Next Generation Program). Can I just say what a blessing this has been! I have made amazing friends and had the chance to see so many different aspects of the oil industry and our company. Above is the amazing group of individuals that I have had the privilege of getting to work with and know over the course of the year.

Each of us will start our permanent positions on Tuesday. We will no be together in a group, but will be working in different facets of the company. Pray that the Lord continues to use us all and make a positive impact on our organization. I pray we continue to maintain the friendships we have created and always remember the year we put in together!

1. Went to the ER for a serious infection! (Yuck!)
2. Missed work for a week because I was sick.
3. Traveled to Lufkin Texas for UMARMY (Mission Trip)
4. Watched the Lord work in the lives of High School Students
5. Painted a house, fixed a porch, constructed handrails etc.
6. Back to work today (monday)

Alma Mater

I had the privilege of going to my Alma mater,The University of Oklahoma, for a business trip. Although it was a short day trip, I was blessed by the time I was able to spend there.

Upon my arrival to the campus memories came flashing back. I was graced with an amazing feeling of peace and comfort when I pulled up to the familiar main entrance of campus. Not much had changed on campus, it was still as beautiful as ever, with people working tirelessly to beautify and maintain the old buildings and gorgeous endowed gardens.

I hosted a meeting in the new engineering building, and then made my way to campus corner for a lunch with two wonderful people! After ordering my favorite meal from Cafe Plaid, I was blessed by hearing the stories of Judy and Alicia's lives. Both of these women have done so much to encourage me over the years. They have helped me grow in my faith, and continue to challenge me in ways I could never imagine. :)

I went back to finish up our business meetings, and then strolled over the the Oklahoma Memorial Union to meet with an old advisor. Upon entering the Union, the familiar smell aroused my senses. I knew I was in a building that fosters, education, leadership and a growth. The meeting with my old advisors went great, and I am encouraged about the continued growth of OU and its students. I was shocked to walk into the office of administrators and feel like it was just yesterday that I was a student. Our conversations picked up right where we left off, and I left feeling inspired to to continue to challenge myself personally and professionally!

All in all the trip to OU was a success. I was able to finish my work, while catching up with old friends. While I was there I came to a very strong realization. It became apparent that the people and environment has contributed so much to the person that I am becoming. I learned more than I can imagine while at OU, lessons about leadership, personal development, love, friendship and faith. And don't forget my die hard love for SOONER FOOTBALL! I am thankful for the life lessons I learned during my four years in Norman, OK.

I am glad I am a Sooner, and hope I can spread the legacy of the Sooner Spirit onward!

1. The Same Kind of Different as Me- I have never loved a book so much. This is the first book that I literally laughed out loud, cried, and got chills! Weekend Review... MOVING

This weekend was spent MOVING to our new apartment! (its super cute!). Friday was spent signing our lease and moving over clothes. Saturday was moving day! My golly we have TONS of stuff! Between my roommate and I we had more stuff than I ever imagined! The new places, has twisting and turning stair cases and pathways, it made for a complicated move.

Did I mention that with the help of one other person I moved a couch up the the stairs? I have the bruises to prove it :)

Thanks to Lindsay, Tommy, Brian and Joey who helped us move. And of course, thanks to our AWESOME parents who put in countless hours lifting boxes, hanging pictures and making us feel at home!

Too many of my friends live far away. Its hard having your best friends live in another city. But I love having phone chats, or g-chats to catch up with them!! I think its really special when you get to have a lengthy conversation with people who are such a special part of your life. Its great to hear about new boyfriends (Melissa), working as a young professional (Heather), learning how to fly airplanes (Erin), completing Triathlons (Holly), and life lessons. (Wow, I have really cool friends!)

Regardless of their distance, these chicas have helped me grow so much. They have each contributed something special to my life. Welp... it looks like I need to make an effort to go to Ft. Worth, Dallas, Lower Alabama and Tulsa, Oklahoma to spend some more time with these girls. Or you all can come and visit me!

Tonight Mckenna and I decided to cook. In order to decide which culture we would cook from we had 2 pieces of paper on which either was a #1 (north or west) or a #2 (south or east). From these we would randomally pick from each others hands to pick from where in the world would we cook from. It was whittled down to southern hemisphere, then western hemisphere putting us in South America. When then repeated this to arrive at the north western section of South America. We settled on Columbia.

Dishes included:

Shrimp al Ajillo (shrimp sauteed in olive oil, bay leaf, chili powder, garlic. Add white wine, lemon juice and reduce, then add fresh parsley)

Beef Empanadas (sauteed bell pepper, onion, olive oil, tomato paste, steak from which we baked into little shells)

Quinoa Pilaf (sauteed onion, carrots, and quinoa (a type of South American grain) mixed with lemon zest/juice and peas)

Corona (we did not make this)

A little messy but good. Dinner wasn't until 9:45pm!

I have a strange obsession with bookstores. When I go into a bookstore I feel so peaceful! I also feel like the world is my oyster, and I can learn about ANYTHING. One of my favorite places is....Half Price Books! I LOVE THIS PLACE! You can get amazing books, all kind of books in fact, Cookbooks, novels, picture book, bibles, etc. etc. :) You can also sell your old books back to the store!

But what is the good news... everything at Half Price Books is 20% of this weekend! :) WAHOOOO

Lets be honest... I have a problem with Target! I cannot go into the place without spending at least $25. They have such cute clothes, wonderful household items, shoes, etc. I can always find something to buy. Lets take today for example... A unnecessary trip to Target during lunch to "kill some time" turned into buying two dresses, One for work and one for the summer!
And whats even better... SUPER TARGET!

Super Target has it all! Archer Farms (the Target Brand food) is delicious, and it has everything that you may need in ONE place. I wont forget to mention the amazing meal combos, like Popcorn and a soda for $1.50!

Does anyone else feel the same way about Target that I do?

Weekend Review

What a beautiful weekend! I love when I can look back at my weekend, take a deep breath, and be thankful for a relaxing and joyful time!

Friday afternoon started with a restful nap and a yummy homemade dinner, just for myself! (Grilled Chicken and Spinach Salad). Then I went to my friend Gill's house. I met some new people, found my new obsession with dogs with big paws, and saw/drank the largest bottle of wine I have ever seen! (see below)

Saturday- I woke up early (7:30am!) went for a run in Hermann Park, and then made my way to Target to find a new swimsuit. The weather was nice, so my friend Lindsay and I sat out by the pool all day. Little did I know my sunscreen was expired, so I have a funky shaped sunburn all over my body! Saturday night was concluded with dinner with my family, playing freeze tag with my little cousins, and cuddling!

Sunday- I SLEPT IN! Mom made coffee, lunch and grocery shopping with Mom. Tommy taught me a new card game, He was the winner. Ate dinner with Mom and Dad (Great new recipe Mom!), then tried to follow the season finale of LOST.

Pizza Night

yup that’s right, two blogs in a row about food! It is true, I like to eat! Last night Tommy (the master cheif) and I made our own pizza. It was much better than ordering a pizza, or a frozen pizza.

First, Tommy kneaded the dough (I sipped on wine as he did most of the work!). After the dough began to rise he spread it across a pizza stone, covered the dough with sauce and cheese. The toppings included, mushrooms (my favorite!), green peppers, onions and olives. Tommy put Serrano peppers on his side of the pizza (by the way don’t ever accept a dare to eat a part of a Serrano pepper, it will burn your mouth!), and I put spinach on my side of the pizza. It cooked for around 25 minutes on 450 degrees.

It was very fun to make, and extremely tasty. :) Way to go Master Cheif!

Sweet Potato Fries!

Lately I have been inspired by food! I have also been surronded by good treats, meals and yummies! For example yesterday I had the privledge of eating tasty Sushi at Japanerios in Sugar Land. Then for dinner, I learned how to make Sweet Potato Fries with my friend Jacci! So easy and so yummy! See the receipe below...

Sweet Potato Fries

1/2 teaspoon(s) ground cumin (optional)

1/2 teaspoon(s) salt

1/4 teaspoon(s) ground red pepper

1 tablespoon(s) olive oil

2 large (about 1 1/2 pounds) sweet potatoes

1. Prepare the sweet potatoes: In a small bowl, combine cumin, salt, and pepper. Set aside. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Peel potatoes, cut each in half lengthwise, and cut each half into 6 wedges. In a large bowl, combine the cut potatoes, oil, and spice mixture. Toss until potatoes are evenly coated.

2. Bake the fries: On a baking sheet, arrange potatoes in a single layer and place on the middle shelf of the oven. Bake until edges are crisp and potatoes are cooked through -- about 30 minutes. Serve immediately.

Continuing on with the theme of good eats... Tonight, Tommy and I are making a Pizza. I am not sure what exactly we are going to put on it, but it should be fun! :) Pizza, wine and Good Company, sounds like a great night!

Top 2 Tuesday - Things to do in your lifetime

Its Top 2 Tuesday time... (and its amazing how long it has been since I have done this!) This weeks theme is top 2 things you want to do before you die, a bucket list if you will. This was really hard for me, but I think I did a decent job!

1. Live a month or so, similar to the life of Mother Teresa. I think Mother Teresa is a beautiful woman and her spirit is even more beautiful! I love how she spent her life healing others through love and compassion. I would be overjoyed to live for a while a life similar to Mother Teresa, putting earthly things aside, and showing God's love to others who are ill, poor or broken.

2. Fall in Love! I cannot wait to fall in love. I'm not talking about middle school love, but true servant minded love. The kind of love that makes you a better person, that pushes you to greater things, and that makes you smile. I hope to fall so deeply in love and marry the man of my dreams!

This past weekend my friend Janet and I ran in the Green 6.2. It was a great race. We decided to take out time, run slow and enjoy the beautiful morning. The race was small, but none the less, Janet and I had wonderful conversation, and knocked out 6.2 miles before the afternoon.

It was sponsored by Ruggles Green, which is an amazing resturant in Houston. Houstons first 100% certififed Organic resturant. AND THE FOOD IS AMAZING!

I think I may stick to running 10K runs instead of 1/2 marathons. My body likes them much better :)

My Sister got MARRIED!

Last weekend my only sister got married to a wonderful man, Blake! Mr. and Mrs. Parrish are now relaxing and exploring in Costa Rica! Below you will find some pictures from the wedding. I have been very behind in my blogging. Life has been crazy, my job is rolling, my sister got married, I have spent tons of time with family, attended bible study and fallen more and more in love with the Lord.

God has blessed my life in so many ways. He has provided rest when I was tired, and made the rain stop as my sister walked down the isle in her outdoor wedding. He also has forced ne to find peace in him!

I miss my blogging buddies. Sorry I am so behind! Back on track soon!

Someday Syndrome...

Recently life has taken some interesting twists and turns that has made me think about living life to its fullest. I am reading, "One Month to Live" by Kerry & Chris Shook, and it has presented some very thought provoking topics.

Do you suffer some "Someday Syndrome." The disease in your mind that you keep telling yourself, "Someday I will run a marathon" or "Someday I will find time for Jesus" or "Someday I will make enough money, and then I will stop putting my job first".

I have decided to really dig deep and have asked the Lord to reveal my "Someday Syndrome." The Lord spoke clearly... I keep telling myself, that "Someday I will love radically for the Lord" Welp, the time is now. I am not going to suffer from this disease anymore!!

The Power of the Blog...?

I have to say, at first I was skeptical about blogging. But recently, my blogging adventure has taken a new turn. I have enjoyed finding other blogs and reading them. I love how the blogging community can bind together for certain causes, how we can pray for people we dont even know, or how I can be encouraged by one womans missonary story to Africa...

I guess before I really get into the blogging world I need to figure out the basics... like how to change my font... maybe the layout! Or perhaps how to make the comments show up under my blog, instead of hidden! Oh goodness, I have so much to learn!!!

But here lies the question.... How do I find the inspiration to write about things that will inspire others? I want to do more than just write about my day, or a funny story. I want to take the time to speak to the hearts of other people out in the blogging world. Maybe I should talk about how the Lord showed up here, or how I was inspired there. I am not sure... But I do know that I feel so encouraged by all of you out there who share your lives and hearts. So thank you.... :)

1. I have a strange obsession with nail polish! I love to have my nails painted, but the second the polish begins to chip, I have to take it ALL off! Right now my nails are painted a stone color...

2. my favorite food is popcorn... I know I know, popcorn is a snack, but I could a whole bowl by myself, and 3x a day! I eat it as a meal, as a late night snack, or just because!

I have a small obsession with Dove Chocolate. Not only do savor the taste of the small chocolate bliss, but I open the cholocate hastely to find a heartfelt message in each wrapper.

I know I have blogged on this before, but I dont think you all understand how much I really LOVE chooclate. Especially Dark Choloate. Not only is it yummy, but it is good for you.

Top 2 Tuesday... Top 2 Things, You Cant Live Without....

1. Mascara- As cliche as it may sound, I cannot live with out my mascara! I know my sister Katelin can relate! I have blond eyelashes, and without it I look like a ghost. I usually do not leave the house without applying atleast a light layer. It is my favorite cosmetic!

2. Running - Ok lets be honest, I could probably live without running, but nother is better than a "runners high". I feel so blessed every time I get to run outside. The joy of listening to good music, challenging my body, and seeing nature is awesome! It is incredible how I can turn into the happiest person after going for a run! :)

I am sure the Lord will bless me with many more exciting things, trips and opportunities. I am thrilled to see what the next 3 months have in store as they will define family, friends, living arrangements, work and life!

Pray that the Lord blesses these next few months as they will be filled with transition and change!

Brownie Hands

My beautiful 2nd cousin Avery is 4 years old, and so full of life, energy and spunk! The best thing about spending time with Avery is that there is a never a dull moment. She calls me "Aunt Mac" which just steals my heart every time she says my name! Because I am her "aunt" I get to break the rules every once in a while! Hehe... So...I opted to let Avery get dirty AFTER her bath!

Instead of cleaning the brownie bowl, we opted to stick our hands in the bowl! It was much fun!

These are the moments I cherish in life. The moments where you can get dirty after being clean, where you can laugh until your stomach hurts, and most importantly eat chocolate!

"So How is Your Day?"

"How are you today?" A very common question asked amongst strangers. But lets be honest, we arent really looking for an answer other than "Good, Great, Ok, Fine etc."

Yesterday I was in the check out line at Target and I asked the cashier "How is your day today?" Much to my surprise he answered "AWFUL!" I was expremely taken back? He went on to explain that he "flunked a test, had to drop a class, and his 'girl' is sleeping with another guy, and she wont tell him who!"

Really? What do I say to this? What do you say to anyone who answers the question contrary to how we expcet it be answered!!?

I told the young man that I would be praying for him! then I told him, "I hope your day gets better!" At that point it was 8:00pm at night :)

work time prayer

Today I engaged in an amazing 15 minutes of prayer at work. I was feeling a bit blue so I locked byself in a small conference room and got down on my knees (literaly). It was amazing! I poured my soul to the Lord, and it felt so pure and beautiful. I think that it was so magnificant because an office setting isnt typically where one prays. I cant imagine how the disciples felt when they prayed in places that were obsure. Like my prayer today, it must have been so authentic and peaceful.

I am excited to find more conference rooms to sneak into!

I Finished a Book!

I love to read, but lately it has been difficult for me to finish a book. I often start books, struggle to find time to read them, loose interest, and start another book. However, this time I finished a book! I have been reading "Have a Little Faith" by Mich Albom. It was a great book (true story) about a Rabbi who asks a the author to write his euology. He accepts the invitation, thinking the Rabbi's passing is right around the corner. However 8 years later he is transformed in faith by the teachings of both the Rabbi and a Baptist Preacher. Albom learns that dispite our pasts we all are capable of coming to the Lord. He sees a wonderful transformation of his own soul and thos who encounter these wonderful men of God.

It was a good book. I am not sure I will put it on my list of favorites, but I sure am proud of my diligence in finishing it from Cover to cover. To learn more about the book visit the authors site HERE!

Race This Weekend

I find solace in running. It rejuvenates my body and soul. Running is a great time to not think about anything, or to think about everything.

I have begun training for my third half marathon. My roommate from college (Melissa) and I will be running the “Big D” Half Marathon on April 10th. To prepare for the "Big D" I like to run in a shorter races. This weekend I will be running a 10K in the ConocoPhillips RodeoRun. The 6.2 miles will be a perfect challenge to obtain more race experience and also improve my times.

I love race day! Something in the air reminds me of high school track meets. The people around you are filled with endorphins, and excited to challenge their bodies. The post race parities are also a blast, free bananas and Gatorade galore!

Wish me luck this weekend & maybe I will meet a cute Cowboy runner at the race!!!

Breakroom Engineering

Two engineers walk into a breakroom....

I tried to make a joke out of what I been witnesssing lately, but it didnt work! Instead I will tell you that the enginners who work at my office are very funny. Lately they have been using the breakroom as a meeting place, and the breakroom supplies as props for their brainstorming.

Not once, not twice, but three times today I have walked in on Engineers discussing our products in the breakroom. Mind you I cannot understand half of the words they use! I guess they use the coffee to fuel their super big brains!

Once today I walked in on two engineers using stiring straws, Splenda packets and paper to show to the other their new design idea! I couldnt help but chuckle under my breath, knowing their cubicles are right around the corner, and the easily could have utilized their drawing boards.

I however only go to the breakroom to use the coffee machine, microwave, or to buy a coke. And most of the time when I go to the breakroom, it is actually take a break! (strange concept I know!)

I just love engineers. It makes me so happy and comfortable knowing that most of the people who design the products we use on a daily basis created them using sugar packets and coffee straws! :)

Piggy gets a makeover!

My United Way Piggy got a makeover and a new home today! The other pigs at the office were SOO GOOD! I had to step up my game... Please note that I am basically the ONLY girl in my team so it was the suggestions of the guys to add the mustache!

Piggy Banks for the United Way

Each year, my company is HUGE in supporting the United Way. My officed decided to raise money by issuing a piggy bank contest. Each group was responsible for decorating its piggy bank, collecting change, etc.

I got assigned the job of decorating our piggy bank, because the Rodeo is approaching I decided to go with a Cowboy theme. Check out our Rodeo Cowboy Piggy!

Two Weeks

I have been working in Austin for the past two weeks and it has been beyond wonderful. It was a very quick two weeks, however I feel like I learned so much about me, my independence, work, God, new friends and family.
It seems strange that two weeks can teach you so much but it is amazing how alone time in a hotel allows you to be reflective and honest with yourself.

I learned that I enjoy my independence, although there are times when I just want to lean on someone,
I learned that I do love my job, but more importantly I love meeting and working with new people.
I learned that time is the Word is a MUST, especially to prepare you for challenges.
I learned the power of pray, and the to really pray BIG, not putting God in a box, but being open to his faithfulness and goodness!
I love my new work friends. I am deeply encouraged by my manager, she is young, energetic, God-Fearing, etc. etc.
I learned how much I value my family. After spending the whole weekend with my cousins, 2nd cousins and God Daughter, I came to the realization that nothing beats family time.

Two weeks... that’s all it took for me to learn so much. I can only imagine what the Lord is going to teach my in the next two week.

Morning Joy

My morning started off INCREDIBLE, and I didnt realize how incredible it was until I took a second to Thank the Lord for the amazing gift of another day of life. I also was blessed with meeting some incredible children this morning... read more below for deatils... :)

Here are 10 reasons my morning was so joyous!

1. I slept though the entire evening and woke up feeling rested.
2. Listening to a devotional before I even got out of bed.
3. A very warm clean shower
4. Walking to Breakfast at the hotel without an umbrella! (no more rain today!)
5. Seeing the hotel filled with special needs kids excited to compete in the Special Olympics
6. Watching these kids find Joy in staying in a hotel and getting free breakfast (I have never seen so much excitement over Bacon, Eggs and Cheese!)
7. A safe and rainfree drive to work
8. Having a manager who is willing to teach and coach me, and who shows amazing patience with my learning curve.
9. Knowing that I get to spend the whole weekend with my God Daughte, and cousins!
10. Friendly co-workers who introduce themselves because "they havent met you yet" but really I jsut wore my hair curly! haha

Fortune Cookies & Dove Chocolate

Yesterday for lunch my co-worker Rohit and I went to Pei Wei. I learned that I have a small obsession with Fortune Cookies! I saved a few cookeis so that I would pass them out at work and also enjoy a cookie in the morning....

Here is todays "Fourtune"- (although fortune cookies have moved away from actuallty telling a fortune, but rather giving a proverb or words of wisdom, Silly Chinese Fortune Cookie makers...)

Another recent part of my day has been eating Dove Dark Chocolates with Almonds. YUM! I like those "fortunes" or sayings. They say fun things like "Its ok, eat another chocolate," or "This chocolate is for a special moment." Darn right it is special, I am eating chocolate! :)

Hotel Living...

For the next two weeks I will be living in a hotel in Austin Texas. The location is wonderful, located right near the Arboretum (great shopping and resturants), 15 minutes from my office, and 15 minutes from my Cousin Mindy and her family.

Although living in a hotel has its perks, it is different from being in my own place. Here are the top 10 Perks...

1. King Size Bed (I had to roll over TWICE to turn off my alarm clock!)
2. Kitchen in my Hotel Room
3. 5 Pillows on my bed
4. The ability to watch the news in the morning while I get ready (the TV turns all different directions)
5. Fresh towels
6. Free Hot Breakfast in the mornings
7. hotel "Socials" at night (light snacks that I turn into dinner... go ahead, call me cheap!)
8. Newspaper to read in the mornings
9. Friendly hotel guests, and staff wishing me a lovely day.
10. MY BED BEING MADE FOR ME EVERYDAY!

God of the City (Houston)

Everyday I drive past downtown Houston. The sunrise beautifully reflects off the buildings as it rises each morning. As I travel up I-45 to I-10, I pass the theatre district, The Aquarium, and many tall sky scrapers housing thousands of business professionals.

This morning as I approached the gleaming skyline I realized that I have the wonderful ability of praying over our city... A sort of prayer walk if you will, perhaps a prayer drive! I started to pray for Houston, for the weak and lonely, for our local government, etc. I prayed that God become the God of our City. (Can you tell that he Chris Tomlin Song is my inspiration here?)

I think this will be a wonderful way to start my day, praying over Houston as I drive to work. I invite you all to pray over your city. Let’s pray to make God the God of our cities!

less news on Haiti

Does anyone notice that the news about Haiti is slowly going away? To be honest, I dont want this to happen. I want people to continue to ear about Haiti and feel conviction about helping. I would like to see information about good things happening in Haiti as more supplies arrive, as the community joins together to survive, or as people come recieve medical help. Maybe these stories are not being told because they are not "juicy" enough.

Either way my heart is still so attached to Haiti. I would love to pick up and go over there right now, but I know I would be more of a burden than anything. Instead I will continue to pray, and I will continue to pray that peoples hearts are moved to help those who are less fortunate than us.

Dad's Call to Construct!

Last night I had an amazing dinner with my Dad. We were celebrating many of his accomplishments. This was the first time that I really saw my father’s heart for the Lord. My heart pumped quickly as I heard him talk about his call to serve in a greater capacity, to serve in construction missions.

He feels deeply touched by the devastation in Haiti, and wants to utilize his gifts of handy work to help reconstruct their country. You have to understand that my Dad is a "Tim the Tool Man Taylor" of sorts (minus all the comedy and silly accidents!). He can fix almost anything; from cars and cabinetry to making new backs for our earrings, he is one resourceful man.

My Dad feels called to use his gifts to make a difference in this world. Please pray that the Lord guides him to put into practice his gifts to serve the Kingdom.

PRAY FOR HAITI

Please pray for Haiti. The American Red Cross announced today that over 50,000 people are expected dead. I found this blog of a beautiful family that lives in Haiti. It is a great way to really understand what is going on. http://livesayhaiti.blogspot.com/

Dear Lord,

Be with the hurt, broken and weary in Haiti. I do not have the words to ask of you today, but I know you are bigger than this Lord. I know you can heal the wounded and bring your peace to the country. Please please please end the pain soon, and bring hope to the people.

Project 3:45+

Did you know that the average time it takes to read one New Testament chapter is three minutes and forty five seconds?

A local church as put on a plan called Project 3:45+. It is named after the amount of time it takes to read one chapter of the bible, and it is a plan to help read the new testimate in one year! I love this idea, because it puts into perspective how little time is actually takes to read the bible. :)

The + part of the projects give you the opportunity to explore deeper by additionally reading a proverb, psalm and a chapter from the hold testimate. The best part of the whole project is that it takes the guess work out of the bible. It eleimates the question of "Where do I start?" or "what book do I read now?"

So far so good on the plan! I'll keep you posted on my progress! If you want to read with me, right now I am in John 10. Tomorrows reading is John 11... and so on.

Being sick, watching the bachelor, and more

Friday during work I was feeling under the weather, little did I know I would be knocked on my butt for the next 4 days. All weekend I layed on the couch suffering from body aches, a fever, coughing, runny nose and a killer sore throat. The benifit of being sick is that you get to watch a ton of TV, and read good books!! So I started watching the Bachelor and probably picked up on best episode ever!

My friend Amanda and I text messaged back and forth through out the whole show. One of the girls got kicked off for "having relations" with a staffer of the show. CRAZY! Another girl got to go on an amazing date while flying around California, eating a candlelit dinner and getting a private concert from Chicago.

I can now see why so many girl in our generation live in a fantasy world! I am also readying Lady in Waiting. This is one of my favorite book and I love reading it. It puts me back in my place and reminds me to patiently put my trust in the Lord on bring my my future husband! I am reminded to dive into loving others and Christ even more, and to not really "wait" on Mr. Right at all... rather have faith in knowing the Lord will provide on his own timing!

off day, part II

I went to meet with a customer today and they have a beautiful office in Greenway Plaza. Marble Floors, glass doors, the whole nine yards. I have been working on drinking more water so of course I had to find the ladies room. I was hurrying back to meet with the customer and I ran face first into one of their glass doors!!!! They must have really great cleaning people because you couldnt even tell it was there....

I looked around to make sure no one saw me, luckly no one did. I also left a huge face print on the glass door. Not to mention the bruise the showed up under my left eye!

Dear Parker Drilling,

Please put thoses stickers on your glass doors to prevent people from running into them!
